KMART CELEBRATES 59 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
59 Years and still going, our real world counterpart celebrates 59 years of Savings!

METAVERSE, VRC., Mar. 1, 2021
On March 1st, 1962 the first Kmart store opened in Garden City, Michigan to massive fanfare. The store became an all out hit, and the S.S. Kresge Company new this was the future of retail.

59 years later and Kmart is still holding on by a thread, surviving a global pandemic and operating ~20 remaining stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Guam.

Granted, a lot has changed in the past 59 years, but those same morales Sebastian Kresge has in 1962 are still carried on today within those last Kmart stores and through VRChat Kmart.

We plan to continue his mission without a physical brick-and-mortar presence, but instead use virtual brick-and-mortar stores to provide a friendly, realistic, and nostalgia filled experience for people all across the world.

So here's a toast to the 59 years before, to all those who worked and still work at the real Kmart stores, and to all the years and amazing memories to come with the VRChat Kmart project.
