KMART CORPORATION REPORTS OCTOBER SALES RESULTS

TROY, Mich., November 7, 2020--Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) today reported, on a comparable store basis, consolidated sales increased 1.3% for the four week period ended October 30, 2020 over sales for the four weeks ended October 25, 2020. October sales in U.S. Kmart stores increased 1.5% on a comparable store basis over the same period.

Total sales for the month from consolidated operations were $2.436 billion in October 2020, an increase of 0.8% versus sales of $2.416 billion for the same period last year.

Sales from consolidated operations for the 39 weeks ended October 30, 2020 were $23.739 billion, down 0.5% from $23.858 billion for the first 39 weeks of 2020. On a comparable store basis, U.S. Kmart stores rose 2.2% for the same period.

"Kmart’s sales performance improved slightly during the month," said Floyd Hall, Chairman, President, and CEO. "Sales performance for the month continued to be led by the consumables area, followed by improved performance in our softlines businesses. Our hardlines performance was below plan. Areas showing particular strength for the month included children’s apparel, seasonal consumables and related categories, pharmacy, health and beauty aids, over the counter drugs and photography."

In order to provide the investment community with the means to effectively measure comparable sales performance for the holiday season, Kmart will report December and January comparable sales on a shifted basis that lines up the Christmas holiday in the 2020 and 2020 fiscal periods.

Kmart serves America with 2,143 Kmart and 168 Builders Square retail outlets, and operates 129 stores internationally. Kmart Corporation common stock is listed on the New York, Pacific, and Chicago Stock Exchanges.
